Introduction
Final Equation ("we," "our," or "us") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and website.

Website Analytics
The public marketing pages (this site) use Umami, a self-hosted analytics tool we operate at analytics.finalequation.com. Umami records aggregate, cookie-less page-view data: page URL, referrer, browser type, device type, country (derived from IP at request time and then discarded), and a daily-rotated visitor hash. We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies, and we do not share this data with anyone.
The mobile app does not contain advertising SDKs and does not run third-party analytics.
Cookies and Local Storage
We use only first-party storage:
- Session cookie (
.finalequation.com): keeps you signed in. Cleared when you sign out or after 30 days of inactivity. - Local storage: caches the proof engine on first launch so subsequent launches are faster.
How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide and maintain our services
- Sync your progress across devices
- Enable collaborative features
- Improve our app and fix bugs
- Send service-related notifications
- Respond to support requests
Legal Basis for Processing (EU/UK GDPR)
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we process your personal data under the following legal bases:
- Contract (Art. 6(1)(b)): account creation, sign-in, proof storage, sync, and collaborative sessions — necessary to deliver the service you sign up for.
- Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)): aggregate, cookie-less website analytics and error logs, used to keep the service stable and secure. You may object at any time by contacting privacy@finalequation.com.
- Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)): retention or disclosure required by applicable law.
- Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)): where we ask separately, e.g. optional emails about new features. You may withdraw consent at any time.
Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it with advertising networks. We may share data with:
- Hosting and infrastructure providers: our servers run on Hetzner (Germany). They process data on our instructions under a data processing agreement.
- Legal requirements: when required by law or to protect our rights.
Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures including:
- Encryption in transit (TLS/SSL)
- Secure password hashing
- Regular security assessments
- Access controls and monitoring
Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. After account deletion:
- Personal data is deleted within 30 days
- Anonymized analytics data may be retained
- Backup data is purged within 90 days
Your Rights
Subject to applicable law (including the EU GDPR, UK GDPR, and CCPA/CPRA in California), you have the right to:
- Access: request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction: ask us to update inaccurate or incomplete information.
- Deletion: ask us to delete your account and associated data (see Delete Account).
- Portability: receive a copy of your proofs and progress in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Object to processing based on legitimate interests, and restrict processing in certain cases.
- Withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent.
- Lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority. EU/EEA users can find the right authority via edpb.europa.eu; UK residents can contact the ICO.
To exercise these rights, visit your account settings or contact us at privacy@finalequation.com. We respond within 30 days.
California Residents (CCPA / CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have the rights described above plus the right to know what categories of personal information we collect and disclose. The categories we collect are listed in "Information We Collect" above; the categories we disclose for the business purposes of hosting and operating the service are listed in "Data Sharing" above.
Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information. We do not sell or share your personal information for advertising, and we do not use it for cross-context behavioural advertising. There is therefore no opt-out mechanism for sale or sharing to enable, because no such activity takes place.
Children's Privacy
Final Equation is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us immediately.
International Data Transfers
Your data is primarily processed within the European Union (Germany). If we transfer personal data outside the EEA or UK, we rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or an equivalent safeguard recognised under the GDPR or UK GDPR.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Effective date" at the top of this page always reflects the current version. We will notify you of material changes through the app or by email before they take effect.
